17 Years ago today...

This was happening! As Dave likes to say, "It was the longest day of the year...and it felt like it!" (June 21st was Summer Solstice--the day with the most daylight). He is a funny guy. We are so lucky to have each other and to still be best friends.
To celebrate our anniversary we bought a Wii! (I know, we are SO behind the times) but we enjoyed playing it with Aaron and Laura and decided we "needed" it. Apparently ROCK BAND is coming out on sunday and we need to order a Wii FIT too!
Tonight we are going to celebrate by eating at Jimmy Mac's Roadhouse. We can't wait. We love those yeast rolls...they taste like doughnuts! yum, yum.

We *heart* AZ (warning:picture heavy)

Jack has the cutest litte SCOWL! LOL!

Wii Fun

What a good daddy Aaron is!

Aunt Michele loves Jack...

Uncle Dave even held him once or twice...he's sure that babies smell fear!

Look at this gorgeous Mommy! (And Jack's cute little shoes!)

Aaron & Jack at dinner!

Analee & Nate have so much fun!

Nate and Charlie move REALLY fast!

Dave, enjoying the convertible!
This is an AWESOME resort if you ever have a chance to go stay!

The little fam in front of a model home...

One of the Fav's!

We had so much fun in Arizona last weekend. We had temperatures in the 100s, we rented a convertible Mustang, and loved spending time with Aaron, Laura & Jack as well as Analee, Charlee & Nate. We all went out to dinner on Friday night, the boys played golf on Saturday, and we ate at a cool outdoor restaraunt that grows it's own veggies on Saturday.

Little Jack is SO adorable. he is about the cutest baby boy we have ever seen! Aaron & Laura are such cute first time parents too! We had fun hangin' them and playing Wii, swimming, eating and house shopping!

We have been to Arizona so many times that we have favorites already. Here is our list of favorites:

1. Eating at Rustler's Roost (a really yummy steakhouse)

2. Staying at the Arizona Grand Hotel (with a waterpark on site AND an adult's only pool)

3. Driving through 2 neighborhoods situated around waterski lakes

4. Driving around Gilbert & Chandler

5. Stopping at my favorite scrapbooking store: Scrapbooks, ETC in Mesa

6. Checking out ANY & all Nurseries (read: places that palm trees are sold)

7. Getting ice cream at Cold Stone in the Chandler Fashion Mall

8. Going through model homes.

9. Drinking Mexican Coke at Tia Rosa's (with the fam!)

The weather was SO much better than the 50 degrees with rain AND wind that we had here in Washington last weekend that our friend Trent called us on the day we were supposed to come home to tell us not to bother...the weather in AZ was so much better than here. (who can believe it still feels like winter here and it is JUNE!?!?!?) What is up with that?

Anyway....a big thanks to all of the family in Arizona for spending time with Uncle Dave & Aunt Michele. We'll have to do it again soon.

Quotes on "Advice"

Good advice is always certain to be ignored, but that's no reason not to give it.-Agatha Christie

We should be careful and discriminating in all the advice we give. We should be especially careful in giving advice that we would not think of following ourselves. Most of all, we ought to avoid giving counsel which we don't follow when it damages those who take us at our word.-Adlai Stevenson

Success To laugh often and much;To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded-Ralph Waldo Emmerson

A word to the wise ain't necessary, it's the stupid ones who need the advice-Bill Cosby

Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn't.-Erica Jong

He that gives good advice, builds with one hand; he that gives good counsel and example, builds with both; but he that gives good admonition and bad example, builds with one hand and pulls down with the other.-Francis Bacon SR

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.-Henri Nouwen

"Do-so" is more important than "say-so."-Pete Seeger

Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.-Ralph Waldo Emmerson

One more get up!

This is what Dave and I say to each other when we are about to go on vacation or are looking forward to something...we count down by # of "get-ups". (aka...how many more mornings we have to get up and go to work before it's time to leave on vacation baby!)
This vacation is only a long weekend in AZ but we are so looking forward to it! Since summer here is refusing to arrive we are so looking forward to soaking up some sun!
We are so lucky I have a wonderful brother who is always willing to dog-sit/house-sit for us! yay Jarom! (Happy belated B-day by the way!)
See you on the flip side!

Random Crap

1. I hate the Gorge."Priemier Concert Venue" it is NOT! Folding chairs with masking tape making seat numbers. It's a LONG drive there & back, a LONG walk from the parking lot into the amphetheater, and a LONG wait to get out of the parking lot! (Not to mention the contact high you can't help but getting from all of the stoned RUSH fans!) I am Done with the Gorge for a lifetime! Oh, and it really sucks not getting home after the concert until 3am...I am too old for that!
2. Summer is coming quickly but someone forgot to tell the weather! I am ready for SUN! now!
(It is a good thing we're going to AZ next weekend...we'll get plenty of sun & hot weather there!)
3. We will be having Dave's annual birthday BBQ in June...probably the 21st...I'll keep you posted. In the past we have included a co-ed birthday baseball game. There were too many injuries last year, and Dave decided that 41 is too old to continue that tradition. So- BBQ only this year! :)
4. I have been dying to scrapbook, but just not motivated to go in and deal with my mess that is my craft room. I'd need to clean it just to find the table again. So...here I sit.
5. I am really enjoying watching BNL on HDNet concert series on Direct TV right now. This is WAY BETTER than watching a concert at the gorge! Bare Naked Ladies ROCK! (Especially from the comfort of my own living room were I can oogle Ed up close!) :)

OK...scratch the sunny weather...

I was wrong...so were the weathermen. (So, what else is new?) No sunny weather today.
We slept in and had a lazy morning. We are getting ready to go see RUSH in concert at the Gorge tonight. I know MAYBE 3 songs by RUSH....but live music is always fun.
I have to mention a few words about the LOST finale. How cool was it that Sawyer went back for Hurley and then sacrificed himself for his friends in the helicopter by jumping out so they had enough fuel to make it to the frieghter? He is so HOT! Then, Hello? Penny & Desmond finally found each other! yay! That was the best part! Personally, I don't think Jin is dead...we have to wait until January to find out though. Plus, the island moved?!?! To where...? Or should I ask to when? That would make it even tougher to find! I really like the part where Sayid busted Hurley out of the Mental institution. And I am glad that John Locke ends up dead...eventually. Whew!
All in all I think it was the best season finale EV-A! ;)

Yardwork, Cleaning, and Sunny Weather?

I am getting so excited about the possible good weather we have coming our way. I have a full four days off coming up and I plan on helping Cindy clean out stuff, taking some stuff to the dump, helping Dave weed in the yard, and hopefully scrapbooking.
Last Sunday we went to Carlen's house on Sunday for yummy belgian waffles and to play with the kids. Sweet Chloe had painted a beautiful flower tile for me for Mother's Day (since my children "haven't come yet" :)...) Wasn't that sweet? I love it. I will take and post a picture of it soon! We had so much fun hanging out with their family. Tanner and I played chess. Chloe & I did too, but soon switched to the matching game with McKenzie and Ainsley. Samantha took to Dave so quickly...maybe because she appreciates a fellow friend with a bald head. :) LOL

Heritage & Memory

Dave and his Momma...
Grandpa Larson, Mom & Aunt Janey at Dad's grave.
My lesson this Sunday is on Heritage. I love this quote from Elaine Cannon:
"Be glad you are you--not another instead. With all that you're heir to, add some of your own. Contribute. Accomplish. Serve. Excel. Drink deeply of the good things in life and of the blessings of the spirit. Live that you may one day hand to your children and your children's children the blessing of a heritage even more worthy than your own."
These special people (pictured above) have left me & taught me great things that I need to be sure to pass on to my children (someday).
Dave's Mom: Smile a lot. Serve others & the Lord diligently. Laugh. Always serve dessert.
Grandpa Larson: Serve your country, get an education, live fiscally responsibly. (He will be 95 on June 11th and he's still going strong at slower speed).
My Mom: Love deeply. Never Gossip. Count your blessings. Serve your Family & Husband first.
Aunt Janey: (Happy late birthday--hers was on the 22nd!) Follow your dreams. Family is important. Pursue your intrests.
My Dad: Find Balance between your passions and your responsibilities. Earn the trust of others. Respect your parents. Always be learning.
I miss my Dad so much, and Grandpa Larson (his dad) is really slowing down. Although we'd love to see him stick around for at least 5 more years and make it to 100-- he says he's out of booze. :) the reality is his cancer may be returning and his world has shrunk to the 12 blocks around his house. He hasn't driven at night for quite some time and he's getting pretty deaf and tires easily. I will miss him a lot soon enough. This Memorial day, I renew my promise to myself to make the most of the time I have left with those ancestors that are still with us. Also, I resolve to continue to learn of and honor those who have passed before.
Another point my lesson makes about heritage is that although we are not able to control what kind of ancestors we have, we can each determine what kind of ancestor we will be for our posterity. So ponder this: What kind of ancestor will you be?

We're home!

Wow! We are finally home (although our luggage is NOT)...It's good to be home. We had a great 12 days away but you start missing your own bed, your pets, your house, etc. Although I did not miss having to make meals everyday or Seattle weather! LOL
We are leaving in a minute to drive back to Seatac and see if our luggage ends up on the 11pm flight (the one we were supposed to come in on before we changed to the earlier 8pm flight). Wish us luck.
I will post soon with details on the ship, ports, excursions, photos and getting to meet and bond with some of my Scraplove friends in real life (IRL) when we met in FLL to go out to dinner. :)
See ya soon!
